Physical Education
PURPOSE OF STUDY
At º£½ÇÉçÇø we aim to deliver a high-quality P.E curriculum which inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in all forms of physical activity. Our curriculum will provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness and encourages lifelong participation. Pupils will be encouraged to develop, apply, and evaluate their own performances and monitor their personal progress throughout the year.
Through inter-school competitions, pupils will have the opportunity to compete across a range of sports and activities which will build character and help them to embed key values such as leadership, resilience, teamwork, and respect.
To ensure enjoyment is at the heart of the curriculum, pupils across all year groups will have the opportunity to participate in up to three different activities each half term. Activities will incorporate both team-based sports and individual performances to cater for different interests and personalities.

Enrichment & Extra Curricular Activities
A wide range of recreational activities and team sports are provided during enrichment and after-school activities. Pupils are encouraged to pursue their own interests.
Activities include:
Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxercise, Cricket, Cross Country, Fitness, Football, Hockey, Netball, Rounders, Tennis, Trampolining, Spike Ball and Swimming.
PE Uniform
Our PE team have provided guidance to help students arrive fully equipped for PE lessons.
- º£½ÇÉçÇø with PE period 1 + 2 will arrive to school in full PE kit and must bring uniform to change into after their PE lesson.
- º£½ÇÉçÇø with PE period 3 + 4 will arrive to school in full school uniform and will bring their PE kit to change into prior to their PE lesson.
Please ensure your child is prepared for all weather conditions as we do not have any indoor facilities so PE lessons will take place outside unless unsafe to do so.
Years 7 - 9
In year 7 pupils are grouped in mixed ability classes. Pupils explore, develop, and embed the fundamental motor skills they have acquired in Key stage 2, and become more confident and expert in their techniques as they start to apply them across a number of different sports and physical activities. They learn to understand what makes a performance effective and how to apply these principles to their own and others work. They should develop the confidence and interest to get involved in exercise and sport and outside of school lessons and understand the long-term health benefits of physical activity.
Activities can include: Cross Country, Sportshall Athletics, Netball, Football, Hockey, Tag Rugby, Handball, OAA, Cricket, Tennis, Gymnastics, Dance, Rounders, Athletics and Swimming (dependant on availability of the pool)
In Years 8 and 9 pupils learn in streamed classes. A wide variety of activities are taught across the key stage. Pupils continue to build upon skills developed in year 7 and collaborate with others to apply mastered skills to competitive situations. Pupils will be able to effectively outwit opponents, identify and solve problems, explore and communicate ideas and perform at maximum levels.
Pupils will develop knowledge of the rules of different sports and apply them effectively as a performer, umpire, coach and leader. They will learn to understand what makes a performance effective and how to successfully apply tactics and theoretical knowledge to develop competitive performance and personal improvement.

Years 10 - 11
In Years 10 & 11 all pupils continue with a ‘core’ Physical Education curriculum which builds upon the foundations established in key stage 3. Pupils learn in streamed groups so that activity rotations can be designed to facilitate motivation and enjoyment for all pupils.
The curriculum incorporates traditional game sports alongside recreational fitness and alternative activities to promote interest and variation. Pupils will continue to develop their teamwork and leadership skills by applying the rules and tactics to competitive situations. Pupils will explore how their attitude to physical activity can impact upon their own health and wellbeing.
GCSE PE
Pupils can choose to take P.E as an examinable subject. The GCSE course is a two-year linear course following the AQA specification for Physical Education. The course has both theoretical and practical elements of assessment. The theoretical topics explore the physiological and psychological effects of physical activity on the human body; alongside the socio-cultural influences associated with sport in today’s society.
Pupils will be assessed practically across three different sports from the specification. The assessment will consist of both a team and individual activity.
